I am wary of artist’s statements in general, as I largely feel visual art shouldn't rely on verbal explanations or interpretations. I’d rather viewers think what they like. What my work suggests to me is no more valid than what it might suggest to them. Why should I provide an artist’s statement that spells out what I hope viewers to come away with? Let them have their own experience. If I have any philosophy of picture making at the present time it is this: I want to make pictures that I like to look at, and I hope others like to look at them too. ~ JBF.
